Rév István a budapesti Közép-európai Egyetem történelem és politológia professzora, a Blinken OSA Archivum igazgatója. Az 1984-ben létrehozott környezetvédelmi szervezet, a Duna Kör egyik alapító tagja, az alternatív Nobel-díjként is ismert svéd Right Livelihood Award díjazottja. A princetoni Haladó Tanulmányok Intézetének oktatója, illetve a Los Angeles-i Getty Központ és a stanfordi Magatartástudományi Haladó Tanulmányok Központja kutató ösztöndíjasa. 1995-ben a New Europe Prize díjazottja. Tudományos érdeklődésének főbb területei: a történelmi amnézia, emlékezet, történelmi antropológia és a múlt dokumentumokban fellelhető nyomai. Számos publikációja elérhető, közöttük a Stanford University Pressnél 2005-ben megjelent Retroactive Justice: Prehistory of Post-Communism.

A kurzus megismerteti a résztvevőket az archiválás és a propagandaelemzés jelenkori kihívásaival; gyűjteményeink felhasználásával történelmi hátteret nyújt a hidegháborúval, a magyarországi demokratikus átmenethez vezető úttal és az 1990-es évek jugoszláv háborúit követő nemzetközi perekkel kapcsolatban; és bevezeti a hallgatókat az archívumi forrásokkal való munka gyakorlati kérdéseibe.

The City and the Archive. Historical Interventions in the Public Record (2022/23)

The 5-week internship at the Archivum consisted of lectures, guided walks in Budapest, and archival workshops. The students got acquainted with a critical toolkit that allowed them to deal with historical falsifications in the public sphere, from the urban landscape to archival corpora.

The course provided an overview of major issues and approaches in historiography from classical antiquity to present times. Methodologically, the thematic module focused on the truth - seeking desiderata of historical inquiries and its related (but distinct) searches and techniques of “the objective”.

The course explored, based on unique, up-till-now barely used archival sources, how the social sciences contributed to the emergence of the fantasy of past, present and future that guided both the programs of the sciences and perceptions of the world.
