Hungarian Revolution 1956
Archival footage of and about the 1956 Revolution in Hungary, including newsreels from 1957-1970, and propaganda films from the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s, which present the state's version of the "counter-revolution", as well as television programs, portraits and analyses produced after 1989, when the events and aftermath of 1956 could be discussed openly for the first time.
The series also includes footage of the 1957 May Day rally, recordings of events commemorating the execution of Imre Nagy and colleagues, recordings from a 1996 academic conference on new archival evidence, interviews conducted in the 1980s with victims of show trials, and a literary program on the 1957 writers' trial.
