Research Description:
This project analyses the Western European media coverage of the Hungarian Democratic Opposition from 1981 until the collapse of communism in Eastern Europe. Comparing media reports on the opposition with the letters and reports of the British Embassy in Budapest, this research aims to retrieve more information about Western European politics toward Eastern European dissidents throughout the Cold War period.
Bio:
Keresztes has been involved in the PhD program at the University of Debrecen, at the Doctoral School of Literary and Cultural Studies, since 2022. He wrote his PhD dissertation about the activities of the Hungarian Democratic Opposition during the Kádár regime through the reports of the British Embassy in Budapest. Currently, he teaches at the Department of Communication and Media Studies as a PhD candidate.
